The Midwest's most popular Memorial Day event, Bank of America Celebration at the Station, returns for its sixth year to Kansas City?s Union Station on Sunday, May 25. Bank of America Celebration at the Station features Music Director Michael Stern and the Kansas City Symphony performing familiar patriotic music against the backdrop of historic Union Station, with a finale of blazing fireworks above the National WWI Museum at Liberty Memorial.
The Symphony takes the stage at 7:30PM for a rousing set of orchestral music to celebrate all things American, including the 1812 Overture, complete with live firing cannons! At 9:15PM, all heads will turn to the sky over the National WWI Museum at Liberty Memorial for a stunning display of choreographed fireworks, bursting to the beat of patriotic music. This fireworks display is one of the largest staged in the Midwest.
Grounds open at 3:00PM for this free community event. The PB&J Restaurant Group will operate food booths based on their award-winning concepts Yahooz, Yia-Yia's, Red Robin, and Grand Street Café. Plenty of family-friendly fare will be sold, including sandwiches and wraps, hot dogs, barbeque, frozen custard and a variety of beverages. The Bistro at Union Station is offering picnic baskets by advance reservation. Serving 4 for $49.95 or 6 people for $69.95, the baskets include your choice of sandwiches, salads, fried chicken, wine, soda or beer. Families attending the free outdoor performance by the Kansas City Symphony and the fireworks display are encouraged to bring blankets and lawn chairs. For those who cannot attend Bank of America Celebration at the Station, the concert will again be shown live on KCPT Channel 19, starting at 7:30PM on Sunday, May 25. A rebroadcast of the concert will be scheduled to air over the Fourth Of July Weekend. In addition, numerous public television stations throughout the region will rebroadcast Bank of America Celebration at the Station. Check your local listings for broadcast dates and times.
